The deputy speaker of Plateau state House of Assembly, Yusuf Gagdi, and the minority whip, Na’anlong Daniel, have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Party (APC).
The speaker, Peter Azi, read their letters of defection during plenary on Tuesday, October 25,

Their decision to move to the ruling party in the state was due to PDP’s leadership crisis in the state.
The two defectors said they were pressurized by the members of their constituencies to defect to the APC. Having consulted widely with their constituents, they decided to defect to the ruling party to remain focused and give their people a better representation.
Gagdi and Daniel pledged their loyalty to the party. The defectors were welcomed by the speaker and other members of the APC, assuring them that the party does not against members.
Reacting to the defection, the PDP in the state condemned their action, describing it as unconstitutional and unacceptable. The party said it would exhaust all constitutional means to reclaim its mandate.
However, the latest defection by the PDP lawmakers has put the APC in firm control with the majority of 13 to 8.
The former governor of Plateau state, and senator representing Plateau central at the Senate, Joshua Dariye defected from the PDP to the APC about a month ago.
