Following the ban on the activities of herdsmen in Ekiti, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi has called for caution in the handling of the case.

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti had banned grazing in the state after reports of herdsmen attack and
even encouraged the people to be ready to defend themselves against the herdsmen.

Vanguard reports that the Ooni of Ife who visited the palace of the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe on Thursday, October 27 said care must be taken so that the issue of herdsmen in Yorubaland will not degenerate into a major crisis.

Oba Ogunwusi noted that Fayose’s anti-grazing law was a welcomed development but advised that it be handled diplomatically.

He expressed delight at the number of people that had trooped out to receive him at Aramoko, at the palace of the Alara, and at Ijero, at the palace of the Ajero and thanked them for their cooperation. Oba Adejugbe expressed joy at the visit and commended the Ooni for the meeting of traditional rulers held in Osun state.

“I am happy because the visits are not at close intervals and prayed for long life, unity and cooperation among the people of Yorubaland.”

Governor Fayose, his deputy, Dr. Kolapo Olubunmi Olusola, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Pastor Kola Oluwawole were among the top government officials who received the foremost ruler.

Meanwhile, Oba Ogunwusi explained that the fact that he recognises the place of deities does not mean it is a sin.

The Ooni who has identified as a Christian caused a stir when he was pictured kneeling in a church.

Daily Post reports that the Ooni told people to stop misinterpreting the essence of festival and deities as they were part of nature.

He said: “Those who keep sensitizing people against us that we are worshipping idols are not kind to history. I am proud to be associated with nature. Ife has 201 out the 401 deities and they are all relevant.‎

“These deities are divine messengers of God sent for different purposes. One of them is ORANFE, the god of fire being celebrated here today.”
