Eyitayo Jegede, the factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state, has said he will not surrender his mandate to businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim, Daily Post reports.

Jegede stated this in reaction to INEC’s decision, stressing that he would explore all legal means to
reassert his candidacy.

Jegede’s name was not on the official list of governorship candidates for Ondo State released by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday, October 27.

The embattled gpvernorship aspirant in a statement by his spokesperson, Fasua Kayode, Jegede said he had gone to the appeal court to upturn the decision.

The statement reads: “Jegede assured that he would not, for any reason, jettison the mandate freely given to him by the generality of PDP members in the state.

“He has not in any way abdicated the general consent given to him by the law-abiding members of the PDP to seek election into the office of the governor.”

Recall that on Thursday, October 27, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had replaced Jegede with businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim as the PDP’s governorship candidate in the November 26, guber poll. In another development, the Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko and President Muhammadu Buhari held a close-door meeting inside the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, Abuja.

Mimiko reportedly reached Aso Rock just a little before mid-day for the very crucial meeting that is threatening his state.

Daily Trust reports that issues the governor wants to discuss with the president include the declaration of businessman Jimoh Ibrahim as the PDP flagbearer for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
